Project Update - Wren Hall

One year on from commencing works at EGL2 Wren Hall, Cidon Group continues to make strong progress on one of the UK’s most significant energy infrastructure projects.

The 24m-high slipform fire walls were completed in February 2026. Since then, foundations for the Converter Buildings have been completed, allowing structural steelwork to progress within the DC Hall of Converter Building 1.

In recent weeks, in-situ concrete edge beams to the Operations Building have been completed, with construction of the ground slabs for the Operations and Spares Buildings due to commence shortly. Edge beam works to the Converter Buildings are also scheduled to begin later this month.

Works have also commenced on the Spare Transformer structure, including completion of the 700mm-thick base slab and 1.9m-high bund walls. Further structures remain under review as Cidon continues to support BAM UK & Ireland in delivering the wider programme.

Eastern Green Link 2 (EGL2) is a 525kV HVDC subsea transmission link connecting Peterhead in Scotland to Drax in England. With a capacity of 2GW, the scheme will be capable of powering up to two million homes and forms a key part of the UK's future energy infrastructure.

Appointed by BAM UK & Ireland, Cidon Group is delivering the service buildings package, transformer and converter buildings, and associated structures. We look forward to sharing further updates as the project progresses.
